CESL is a prestigious, intensive English language program accredited by the Commission on English Language Programs (CEA). As an integral part of the university, we host students from all over the world who come to study English for 1-18 months. In addition, we host customized English for Specific Purposes groups, and we conduct teacher training around the globe, including in China Research Projects at CESL CESL serves as a campus resource for many research projects from departments throughout campus. If you would like to conduct any kind of research project at CESL, please follow our research procedures protocol. Graduate students and other visitors observe classes to see experienced teachers at work in a multicultural learning environment. To observe a CESL class, contact Robert Cote rcote@email.arizona.edu Class visitors are limited to 5 each day, and approval of the CESL Director is required to observe more than one class. Visiting scholars at CESL must be self-funded and may stay for a maximum of six months. While conducting their research, they will be asked to participate in some aspect of program development or departmental outreach as well as share their research and results with the CESL faculty and UA community. We offer opportunities for class observations in both intensive and traditional English language courses, interaction with faculty, access to CESL & UA libraries, and chances to explore other possibilities related to their research at the University of Arizona. Visiting Scholars are also expected to make a presentation to the CESL faculty regarding the status of English langauge education in their home countries. Funding Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer any funding, housing, or office support for the scholars. Sponsorship must include all expenses including food, housing, insurance, research expenses, travel, and incidentals. Please see the CESL cost page for information about Tucson costs. Visisting Scholars may apply, pay tution and fees and enroll in a CESL or UA class with approval of the instructor. Eligibility To be considered for a visiting scholar at CESL, applicants mut have completed at least a Masters or Doctorate in TESOL or a related field. A minimum equivalancy of TOEFL 550 is required. International applicants must have a current passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended arrival date.
