HISTORY 

The University of Arizona’s Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) has operated since 1968 and holds accredited status for all its programs through the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), as well as qualifying membership through the University Consortium of Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) and membership in the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP).  CESL is a leader in the field of ESL/EFL teaching with master faculty teaching ESL, consulting on projects, and doing professional development all over the world.  Our faculty are in demand to provide leadership and instruction to the far reaches, including in 2012 teacher training in Korea and China, presentations and teacher training in Venezuela, Argentina, Cambodia, and Mexico, not to mention all over the United States.

OVERVIEW

The Center offers not only an Intensive English Program for 250-300  students, but also offers programs such as the University Track Program (20 students), the Evening Program (80-90 students), the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate program (246 certificates issued in 2012), and a summer Teen English Program (30 students).  CESL also offers various tutoring options and special programs that attend to international students, faculty and scholars from more than 30 countries all over the world.

Because our donors receive no benefits in exchange for their support, 100% of these donations are usually deductible from taxes according to Section 501 (c) 3 of the IRS Code.
