International TEFL Applicant

Eligibility

  • For TEFL Certificate courses: have at least an Associate degree or international equivalent or 2 years of college-level coursework completed.
  • For Professional Development courses: have a teaching license or TESOL/TEFL certificate, and be currently teaching or have recently taught ESL/EFL classes.
  • Have access to a reliable internet connection for online courses.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English: To be accepted into any Teacher Training Program, applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate very independent English proficiency (B2 or higher according to the Common European Framework of Reference [CEFR]). English proficiency may be documented by submitting the following test scores (results must be dated within 2 years of application date):

* CESL EPA consists of Reading and Writing tests (responding to an academic prompt). This assessment will be conducted by CESL for a $75 fee if no other documentation of English proficiency is available.

* Students may also document their English proficiency with a Level 12 or higher recognized by the Certificación Nacional de Nivel de Idioma (CENNI) of Mexico.


Application Requirements

  1. Complete online application. Please provide your full name and date of birth as written in the your passport.
  2. Submit a scanned valid passport. You will be asked to upload this document before you submit your application. Please be sure to have an electronic copy on file.
  3. Submit your payment online. The total payment for tuition and fees will be required to submit the application.

Browser requirements

You will not be able to complete the following application and payment unless you are using newer versions of web browsers (such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari). We will void all such transactions and require you to apply again. Please do not use Mozilla Firefox to submit your application and payment.


If applying to the 100-hour Intensive TEFL program...

Please note that we have additional requirements since this is a full time, face-to-face program. Therefore international applicants must:

  • International students will enter the U.S. with an F-1 student visa. CESL will send you an I-20 to apply for the visa.
  • To issue the I-20, you must provide proof of financial means (minimum of $3,675) to pay the cost of your studies and living expenses in the U.S.
  • If you plan to bring your family you will need to show additional funding of $800 for a spouse and $500 per child.
  • In addition, upon arrival all international students will be required to purchase the $150 health insurance policy. This covers the student health insurance and Campus Health coverage.
  • I-20 fee (non-refundable)  $80
  • SEVIS Fee (optional to pay through CESL and non-refundable) $225
  • Immunizations: All students born after 1956 and attending classes on the University of Arizona campus must show proof of TWO immunizations against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). If you do not have a record you must be re-immunized. See Pima County Health or University of Arizona Campus Health. Please submit documentation in order to complete your application process.

After You Apply

  • If admissible, CESL Admissions Office will send you an admission letter via email.
  • The admission letter will contain a student ID number along with a pin number. You will need these two records to create a University of Arizona NetID.
  • The UA NetID is the access user name and password you will need to gain access to our online courses.
  • Once you create your NetID, send an email to teachesl@email.arizona.edu, so we can record your NetID (provide just the user name).
